Golf Get Ready Program

They have a vision to go to the gym and be intimidated by the "muscle heads." It can also be overwhelming to decide what plan of action to take and whether it will be worth the time and effort. I have three myths about strength training for golf and the truths about them.

"I'm big and prevents my golf swing."

Golf conditioning specific for golf will not result in muscle gain that will alter your swing mechanics. To increase the size of the muscles to lift heavy weights increasingly lower repetitions, increasing your calorie intake dramatically, and for a few hours a day, lift weights.

Conditioning program for golf is made up of moderate weight, with a medium (12-15) repetitions, and a period of 30-45 minutes. This type of program is designed to make your golf strength and endurance specific, not to build muscles.

"I will lose flexibility if I lift weights."

In fact, the opposite is true! Weak muscles are also tight muscles. If you strength, you are increasing blood flow, through a functional range of motion specific to golf, and strengthen the tendons and ligaments in every joint of your body. In combination with a program of stretching, strength training will improve flexibility, not hinder.

"Weight training will allow me to lose meaning."

By strengthening your muscles specific to golf, you have better control of your body. A specific sport trains your body specifically for your golf game. When you improve functional strength, you have more control and balance, which improves your feeling. Resistance to the formation of body awareness, muscle control and coordination. These are all important elements for improving golf.

So, in summary, golf conditioning can occur if your in your early teens (with supervision) or at the end of 80 years. I myself have worked with people who are 70 and 80 whose strength of 100%. This is partly due to the initial level of fitness is so low.

My point is that it is never too late to start. Find a fitness professional or golf conditioning specialist to design a specific program for golf and you play better than ever! Start now!
